Review: EatSmart Precision MaxView Digital Bathroom Scale

Falling off the healthy eating train in the past years, I decided to jump back on. No help from Nutrisystem this time, but with the tips I did learn while using that system. I'm down about 15lbs. in the last 2ish months. Tracking the weight wasn't easy without a working scale in the house. Thankfully, the great people over at EatSmart (yes, the ones I've reviewed plenty on this website before) sent over one of their newer products for me to test out.
I received the EatSmart Precision MaxView Digital Bathroom Scale. When I opened the packaging to take the scale out, all I could think about was the display. At 4.5", the LCD display is huge compared to my last bathroom scale. It's also backlit to make it even easier to read in the dark. The  thick tempered glass sits on a silver colored frame, which comes equipped with the battery area (on the bottom) and 4 sensors.

The Precision MaxView Digital Bathroom Scale certainly is sleek and modern looking, but the best part is how easy it is to use. Auto-calibrated and equipped to handle up to 400lbs., this scale is ready to use right out of the box. Pop in the 2 triple A batteries, step on, and get your weight. There is a handy little button on the bottom of the scale that allows for 3 different modes; Pounds, Kilos, and Stones.

A pleasant surprise was the EatSmart Body Tape Measure that is included for free in the box. This time around, I've started taking measurements with the body tape measure, it is much better than just taking pictures to see my progress. I'm all for easy, and although losing weight isn't, this scale is. Out of the box and in full swing in less than 2 mins. The scale is very sturdy, and not an eyesore. The glass and frame make it look very elegant, it is low profile and easily placed near a corner with a door swinging right over it. I appreciate the wonderful customer service I receive at EatSmart and their great products I've had the pleasure to review over the years.

Gift Guide: South Beach Smoke eCig Starter Kit

Before I begin this review, I'd like to say that I am not a supporter of smoking. I am, however, all for those who want to quit, and this is one of the methods to do so. My father, a heavy smoker since his early teens, was the receiver of the South Beach Smoke eCig Kit we received to review. He has wanted to change his smoking habit over the years, especially with two kids under the age of 10 in the house. The Deluxe Starter Kit comes with following items:

Unpacking and set-up was easy, we simply screwed on one of the nicotine cartridges to the battery and it was ready to go. There is no on/off switch, all my father had to do was inhale and an orange crystal tip lit up. The amount of smoke that it produces was almost equal to a regular cigarette, he said. From the South Beach Smoke website, "Smokers enjoy doses of a vaporized liquid nicotine solution and exhale a water vapor that resembles a puff of smoke". Charging via the USB charger is just as easy, and with two batteries included in the Deluxe Starter Kit, it's more than enough to keep him going.

After a couple days of using the eCigs, the flavor, as he describes it, has grown on him. While I don't mind the subtle smell of nicotine from the cartridge itself, it's a thousand times more tolerable than his regular cigarettes. There is also no second-hand smoke, which is one of the main concerns in our household. Only time can tell if they will help him quit, but the start of this journey is looking rather positive. We will definitely be doing an update review within a couple of months to map his progress.

The South Beach Smoke Deluxe Starter Kits retails for $59.99 and I think would make a great gift for a smoker in your life who has been wanting to try a method to quit smoking. While this may not work for everyone, I think the positive reviews online regarding South Beach Smoke, and eCigs in general, are enough to try them out. With the holidays already here, this can make a great Christmas present, or in my opinion, a New Years present for those who "wish to quit smoking" for their 2014 resolutions.

New Year's brings about the start of many changes for many people. With resolutions to uphold, there is a lot of stress that comes with it all. For myself, this year is bringing about a lot of problems and issues that have to be dealt with. This, in turn, causes quite a bit of stress, of which is not welcomed and makes things hectic.

The stories behind the games, the amount of dedication, and the immersion into them have made them a favorite genre in a short amount of time. Share and Care with Kleenex! #KleenexSWS

With these cold Winter months we're experiencing, many of us fall victim to the cold and flu. Being sick is not something I have ever enjoyed. However, the one thing I think we all looked forward to when we were young, was staying home sick. Of course, this didn't fix the pain, constant coughing, runny nose or our dependency on others. Thankfully I had a mother who was home during most of the day, and when I had to stay home, there was always one food she would make for me.

Sopa de Res is a type of soup my mother makes from our homeland. It's a Nicaraguan-soup that is just full of great stuff like meat, plantain, summer squash, carrots, cassava root, corn, cabbage, cilantro and many other veggies and herbs simmering together. The result is a hot soup with a great light but very rich broth. It takes a lot of work to make sopa de res, but the result it delicious, and it's something I always associate with being under the weather. Of course, eating any type of hot soup while sick will make your nosy runny, and that's where Kleenex comes in. Some people just run to the toilet paper, but I have sensitive skin and Kleenex tissues never makes my nose feel rough or irritates it.

There is no better way to spend Summer than attending carnivals, events and concerts. It's all just screams "fun". If you are in the San Antonio, TX area you are all in for a huge treat. The Festival People En Español will be held on September 1-2, celebrating Hispanic entertainment, culture and community. The event is presented by Target and includes performances from the biggest names in Latino music; Luis Miguel, Tito "El Bambino", Prince Royce and more. The Festival People En Español will be free to visitors. It will include musical performances and even Q&A sessions with telenovela stars. In addition, Festival People En Español will offer visitors two days of free, open to the public events including the opportunity to catch exclusive Q&A sessions with celebrities and telenovela stars, hear tips from leading industry experts on topics ranging from fashion to wellness, and interact with favorite brands.

The event sounds like tons of fun, and a great way to get the family our for some free fun! Tickets are on sale for the performances, and if we lived nearby, we would definitely be checking out those Luis Miguel and Tito "El Bambino" performances. I became a huge fan of reggaeton back in the late 90's - early 00's, before it exploded around 2004. Hector and Tito was one of my favorite duos, but they have since then split. They continue to make great music. Luis Miguel is just a household name in practically every Latino family's parties. Since I can remember, our family parties will always have that romantic Luis Miguel song playing lat into the night for the couples, it's music that lasts well into the generations.
